From 10 January 2010 Switzerland’s national airline will be running six more daily services between London Heathrow and Geneva.

SWISS is one of the few airlines that still offers free ski/snowboard carriage so increasing available seats will be welcomed by London based skiers and boarders.

In a press statement, Gregor Koncilja, SWISS’ country manager for the UK and Ireland, said, “We are delighted by these six new daily frequencies from Heathrow to Geneva, which SWISS has added in response to customer demand. The new service will increase the number of daily flights to Switzerland up to 33.”

SWISS offers daily flights from London City and Manchester to Geneva and Zurich, from London Heathrow to Geneva and Zurich and from Birmingham and Dublin to Zurich. Geneva is one of the closest airports for many resorts in the French Alps and Zurich offers direct train links to other Swiss resorts.

Ten centimeters of powdery snow landed on the hot tub cover last night. The snow is continuing to fall at a steady pace in Veysonnaz at 1500m.

Peering out the window of the Hidden Dragon lodge, the beautiful 4 Vallèes can be seen in their finest views. The early snow makes it a great time for a pre-season trip to Switzerland.

With some lifts opening across the region already – it truly promises to be a fantastic season this year. The openings are well ahead of the scheduled openings at the beginning of December and the lifts will continue to open throughout November.

The weather for the forthcoming week is set to get even better with more snow forecast for the weekend.

Les 4 Vallées is the largest ski domain in Switzerland. It is comprised of 9 interlinked ski stations covering a massive 412kms of pisted slopes. It is undeniably one of the most dynamic ski regions in Europe and yet one of the least publicised.  A well-kept secret by those in the know.  92 lifts interlink 412kms of groomed pistes, connecting the numerous resorts of Verbier, La Tzoumaz, Siviez, Nendaz, Veysonnaz, Mayens de L’Ours, Thyon, Les Collons and Les Masses.

Les 4 Vallées stretches from Les Masses in the East all the way to Verbier to the West, the most famous and most populated of all the 9 ski stations. An advanced skier can leave the Hidden Dragon Clubroom and be having lunch in Verbier within an hour and a half of departing and, in fact, can reach the top of the infamous Mont Fort faster than his Verbier neighbours due to Veysonnaz’s convenient location.

Although Veysonnaz is an undiscovered ski destination by most of the world, the Swiss have been training their World Cup racers there for decades. The Piste de L’Ours is on the World Cup race circuit and a thrilling descent for holidayers wishing to emulate Didier Cuche! Although Verbier holds the crown for the most glamorous of the 9 resorts, those in search of emptier pistes, fewer queues, yet equally dynamic backcountry runs, tend to head to the eastern end of the 4 Valley map.
